Influence by region

How is influence distributed across Sweden’s different regions?

The relative influence of the individual regions was measured by comparing their share of seats in parliament with their overall share of influence. This makes it possible to show the distribution of influence, assuming that all regions have the same number of seats.

If we view the index based on MPs’ home constituency—here, electoral district aggregated to the county level—it gives us a picture of regional influence in Swedish politics. Note that government representatives are not included in this description.

Östergötland and Södermanland at the top
When it comes to parliamentary activity, Östergötland and Södermanland are overrepresented at the top of the parliamentary index. Östergötland, with its 10 members, should proportionally have 1–2 people on the top‑50 list. In reality, they have three, and they place very high. First among them is Eva Lindh (S), ranked as the single most influential Member of the Riksdag for parliamentary influence. She is joined at the top by Aron Emilsson (SD) at no. 11 and Teresa Carvalho (S) at no. 41.

Södermanland shows a similar pattern. With its 8 members, one would expect a single person in the top 50. Instead, they have three: Lotta Johnsson Fornarve (V) at no. 29, Linus Lakso (MP) at no. 32, and Sofia Amloh (S) at no. 40.
