Cancer Action Now: Driving patient-powered change

From long wait times to inconsistent access to treatment, cancer care in Canada faces massive challenges.

The cancer community wanted to unite for change and Burson has been a proud partner in making it happen. Together with founding industry sponsor AstraZeneca, we brought together a broad tent alliance to advocate for making cancer care a national priority with Canadian policymakers.

The Cancer Action Now Alliance (CANA) includes more than 40 organizations representing patients, health care professionals and life sciences companies. Along with leading all strategic planning and communications, Burson serves as the CANA Secretariat, using our deep expertise in patient experience and engagement to ensure good governance and consensus are at the heart of this unique group.

Real change starts with real stories, so we focus on amplifying the voices of Canadians impacted by cancer, sharing their powerful experiences publicly. These stories aren't just anecdotes; they are compelling narratives that humanize the challenges within the cancer care system and drive public demand for action. Our earned media efforts have resulted in 38.54 million impressions, bringing these crucial conversations into the spotlight.

More importantly, this collective action has contributed to the implementation of life-saving cancer screening programs and improving access to innovative treatments, giving patients hope for a brighter future.
